Kent entrepreneur dead at 91.

Alex Geldhof of Kent, died Monday, January 16, at Robinson Memorial Hospital.

Alex Geldhof was a leading businessman in Kent between 1960-1990. He owned H - W Industries for 18 years. In 1978 Alex started Precision Custom Plastics on St. Clair Avenue. He later sold both businesses, and retired at the age of 70.

Alex was born in Pittsburg, Kansas, on July 27, 1920. His father was an immigrant Dutchman from Belgium and came to this country in 1912 and served in WW I. Alex graduated from Pittsburg High School in 3 years on May 27, 1937. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1941 and joined Halliburton as an engineer in Duncan, Oklahoma. In February 1942 Alex volunteered for the Navy and rose to the rank of Lt.Jg. serving on the DE 743 USS Lamons. The ship earned 9 battle stars in WW II.

Alex married Jane Wilson on January 4, 1944, at the Naval Base in Norfolk, Virginia. They were able to spend four months together before he shipped out to the Pacific Theater.

Alex joined the Shaker Heights Rotary Club in 1963 and was President of the Club in 1969-1970. He moved to Kent and joined the Kent Rotary Club in 1975 and was still an active member. In March of 1988, Alex was in the first group to be inducted into the Kansas State University Engineering Hall of Fame. Alex was a member of the Society of Plastic Engineers and Twin Lakes Country Club for 40 years and was President of the club 3 different times. A devout Catholic, he belonged to St. Patrick's Church in Kent.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (White) Geldhof; sons, James (Dr. Megan) Geldhof of Kent and Adam (Jennifer) Geldhof of Bethesda , MD; daughter, Lisa (John) Lazarczyk of Shepherdstown, WV; grandchildren, Dante (Sarah) Geldhof of Brooklyn, NY, Jane McKissock of Tampa, FL, Heather Geldhof of Boston, MA, Jenny Geldhof of Columbus, Paul (Katie) Geldhof of Kent,, Martin Geldhof of Boston, MA, Ivy Geldhof of Kent; step-daughter, Judy (John) Rees of Kent; step-sons, Steve Brown of Kent and Pete (Maria) Brown of Ann Arbor , MI; grandchildren, Brian (Julie) Rees of Napoleon, Jill (Ross) Hutchison of Pinehurst, NC, Hugh (Tara) Brown of Hudson, Ben (Kelli) Brown of Bay Village, Nick Brown of Madison, WI, Douglas Brown of Ann Arbor, MI and Gregory Brown of Ann Arbor, MI; nine great grandchildren,; brother,: Ray Geldhof of Lenexa, KS; sister, Dora Meehan of Tumwater, WA;. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Geldhof in 1970; son, Mark Geldhof.

Calling hours will be held 7-9 PM Thursday, January 19 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Funeral mass will be held 10:00 AM Friday, January 20 at St. Patrick Church, 313 N. DePeyster Street, Kent. Burial will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Church Memorial Fund, 313 N. DePeyster Street, Kent, OH 44240
