Andrea “Andy” Bernadine Lee, age 65, of Kent, departed to be with the Lord and her parents on February 13, 2022.
Andy leaves to cherish her memory, sisters Valerie Barksdale of Kent, Ohio and Thomasine Collier (John) of Euclid, Ohio. Sister-In-Law JoAnn Barksdale (Arthur) of Phoenix, Arizona. Andy leaves 8 nieces and nephews, 23 grandnieces and nephews, best friend Patricia (Patty) Shircliff and her beloved dog, Lance.
Andy was born October 26, 1956 in Ravenna, Ohio to the union of Frederica and Eddie B. Lee. Andy, as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, was the youngest of six children. Andy’s parents, Eddie and Frederica, along with siblings Phillip and Phyllis preceded her in death.
Andy was a lifelong Kent resident who attended Kent City Schools, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1975. Andy later attended Kent State University for two years while settling into her work career. Starting at the age of 15 years old, Andy began her service to the community by working as a Candy Striper at Robinson Memorial Hospital. Andy had an impeccable work record, working her way up the ranks through the Robinson Memorial Hospital System, with her last position being the ICU Secretary. Briefly retiring in 2006, Andy quickly returned to employment at UH Portage Medical Center, where she worked until her unexpected passing. In all, Andy worked at UH Portage Medical Center for 50 years!
While Andy may have been the youngest sibling, she was often viewed as the backbone and glue of the family. Upon her parents death, Andy remained in the family home, preserving the house and all the family traditions and expanding upon them. Andy made holidays special as the family often looked forward to the food and gifts Andy provided. Andy was quite the cook and perfected several family recipes. The family couldn’t wait to eat her famed Poppyseed Cake, pies, cobblers and cheesecakes.
To know Andy is to know her two passions....crafts and traveling. Andy loved to spend hours working on various crafts. Andy worked with stained glass, stamping, scrapbooks, cups, t-shirts and signs. She loved making goods with one of her favorite tools, the Cricut cutting machine. Andy also enjoyed traveling and vacationed whenever possible.. She took trips to New Orleans and Hawaii and also cruised the Caribbean visiting Jamaica, Dominican Republic and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Andy did not have any birth children, but had many nieces and nephews that she considered her children. She was the proud aunt of 8 nieces and nephews and 23 grandnieces and nephews. Andy doted on the children, making sure that their needs were met and was always present when assistance was needed. Andy loved all of the children dearly and had a special bond with her youngest niece and nephew, Adrianna and Thomas, whom she played a significant role in their upbringing. Andy also loved her “son” Lance, her pet dog. Lance gave her many years as a faithful companion and comforter. Andy’s love for him was unmatched.Last, but most important, Andy was a servant of the Lord. Andrea accepted the Lord at an early age and was a long time member of Grace Baptist Church in Kent, Ohio.
