Andrew "Andy" Nolan Scontrino a dedicated husband, father, pawpaw, brother and friend passed away peacefully & surrounded by loved ones at UH Hospice in Ravenna, OH on Tuesday October 8, 2024 after a long, brave battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Andrew was born to Joseph and Ester Scontrino in New Orleans, La. on August 7, 1940. He was one of four children. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, and his brother Joseph Scontrino Jr..

Andrew met his wife Linda while working at Metairie Bank in Metairie, La. They were married in July of 1959. He affectionately called her babe & she called him Sonny. Shortly after marrying, Andrew joined the Air Force where he began a career that would span 28 years. They had one daughter, Dawn (Dragon) Ericsson. As a family of three they lived in many different countries over the years, including Iceland, Turkey & France. When stationed state side, they called Biloxi, Mississippi home. After his retirement, He enjoyed a fun second career of working in the bakery of Rouses making bread and king cakes in Metairie before moving to Ohio.

Andy's favorite past time was fishing, crabbing and shrimping on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and in his home state of Louisiana. He was happiest with a fishing pole in his hand and a beer by his side catching the big ones! He was proud to teach his grandson Trey how to fish when he was younger and always enjoyed their time together. His family was reminded of his love of fishing on a daily basis in the later stages of his Alzheimer's, as he would talk fondly of those days with a smile on his face.

His family is thankful that during his battle with Alzheimer's he remained happy and considered every day a good day with a smile and thumbs up!

Andy was a proud military veteran and was never seen without wearing one of his many Veteran hats. It was always touching to see him interact with other veterans, often trading pins from their hats and talking about the "good ole days". His service to our country was his proudest achievement next to being a good husband and father.

He is survived by his wife, Linda (Castillion) Scontrino; daughter, Dawn (Dragon) Ericsson; son-in-law Lars Ericsson; sisters, Pat (Sullivan) Scontrino & Betty (Franck) Scontrino; first and beloved grandson, Trey Dragon “His buddy;” granddaughter, Megan (Williams) Ericsson (Russell), & his grandson Alex Ericsson (Diana), as well as many Nieces, Nephews, family members and friends.

His family would also like to thank the Nurses and Doctors (Hospice Team) at UH Ravenna Hospital for the loving way they cared for our beloved Andy the entire time he was there. Thank you for allowing his wife, daughter and 2 sisters to literally move into his room so we could be with him 24 hours a day until he left us. We will never forget the love and care that was shown during the most difficult of times.

In lieu of flowers his family asks that you make a donation in his name to the following Veteran organizations. Vietnam veterans of America (VVA), Donate to VVA | Vietnam Veterans of America and The Gary Sinise Foundation, Make a Donation | Gary Sinise Foundation.
