Arletta Louise Powell Tarver Slaughter of Kent went home to be with the Lord on August 14, 2015, with her family by her side. Arletta was born to William and Katy Powell on February 6, 1939, in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. She was also raised by Anne Powell in Ravenna. She graduated from Ravenna Township High School in 1957. In her precious life Arletta touched so many with her grace, her love, and her smile. Arletta was a member of Christian Life Center in Kent. One of her recent triumphs in her life was traveling to Jerusalem with her church.
Arletta enjoyed spending time with her family. She leaves her children: Franklin Tarver Jr. of Kent, Robert Tarver of Akron, Sharon Tarver of Akron, Ronald Tarver of Kent, William (Allison) Tarver of Kent, and Wayne Tarver of Kent; and her special son, Eric Hagelberg. She has 18 grandchildren: Nekeia Mack, AJ Tarver, Alicia Tarver, Thomas Tarver, Carrington Tarver, Austin Jones, Darren Tarver, Derrick Tarver, Teniece Tarver, Erica Tarver, Daniel Tarver, Matthew Tarver, Nicole Tarver, Mariah Tarver, Hannah Tarver, Lauren Tarver, Briana Krul-Tarver, Venus Williams; and 20 great grandchildren. Arletta is survived by brother, Lester (Louise) Powell of Akron; and sisters, Victoria Powell of Odenton, MD and Shirley Ann Powell of Ravenna; special friends, Annette Alexander of Kent and Marie Jones Starcher of Kent; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Tarver Sr.; siblings, William Powell Jr., VonZell Powell Sr., Gladys Wade, and Thelma Beningfield; and son, Alvin Tarver Sr.
Calling hours will be at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home on Friday, August 21st from 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held at Riverwood Community Chapel, 1407 Fairchild Ave, Kent, OH 44240 on Saturday, August 22nd at 11:00am. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.
