Barb "Babsie" Bentley passed away on July 5, 2013 at Akron General Medical Center. She joined her late husband DB on the same day that she had eloped with him 66 years earlier (July 5, 1947).
Babsie was born January 19, 1928 to Herman "Dusty" and Rachel Mae Rhoads in Kent, Ohio. She graduated from Kent Roosevelt High School in 1945. In September 1967, she and DB opened the Rusty Nail Restaurant in Twin Lakes where she not only served as hostess and the real boss, but also was famous for her fabulous cheesecake. An avid reader, Babsie was a champion bowler and passionate card player, as many bridge and euchre partners discovered over the years. She enjoyed watching golf, pulling for Tiger Woods, and cheering for the Indiana Hoosiers. She was a sports fan… as long as the event was on TV. Babsie had many fond memories of spring break with her family and many friends and enjoyed winters in Singer Island, Florida. Her dry sense of humor and honest opinions made for memorable conversations and will be truly missed.
She is survived by her children: Sandy Allen (Gene Mould), Sherry (Dave) Joy, Kim Laubert and Jeff (Debbie Easton-) Bentley; grandchildren: Wendy (Steve) Fiebig, Kristen (Kevin) Kalinowski, Bryse (Kristen) Joy, Brooke Joy (Tyson Cowley), Katie (Ryan) McCrady, Megan Laubert (Eric Etling), and Clay Laubert; great-grandchildren: Ky and Kade Kalinowski, Ella Betzhold and Carson Cowley, Morgan and Carson Joy, Cooper and Knox Fiebig, and Madison McCrady; brother, Robert "Bud" Rhoads; and sisters-in law: Mary Lou Helmling and Jeri Bentley.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don Bentley, and sisters Thelma June Rhoads and Carol (Rhoads) Hane.
Calling hours will be held on Tues. July 9th from 5-8pm and July 10th from 10am - noon at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, 628 W. Main St. Kent, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Kent Free Library Foundation or a charity of one's choice in Babsie's name.
