Barry Clive Jones died suddenly on Tuesday, September 22, 2015. He was born August 24, 1942 in Chicago to George C. Jones, a member of the Squadron responsible for delivery of the A-bomb, ending WWII, and Geraldine Goodman Jones, a well-known and respected artist.
He joined the Navy at age 17, and during his time in service taught survival swimming, won many competition swim meets and served on the U.S.S. Constellation.
After leaving the Navy, he continued his education, earning undergrad and Master degrees and completing classwork for his PH.D. at the University of Illinois School of Arts and Medical Science, where he was on the Dean's List, was graduated Magna Cum Laude and was President of his Junior class.
He was a member of American Hospital Radiology Administrators, The American Society of Radiologic Technologists and The Illinois State Society of Radiologic Technologists.
He received his pilot's licenses in the late 70's, was a member of the Midwest Ki Society, attaining his black belt in Tae Qwan Do, and attended many schools to perfect his love of cooking.
After leaving the medical field, he and his wife, Eva, operated a small seasonal business on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Although Chicago remained their primary place of residence until they moved to Eva's family home in Kent, Ohio, in June of this year, they enjoyed spending many winters in Mexico and, in later years, at their Venice, Florida, home. They enjoyed travelling throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe, taking their mothers along on a ten-country tour.
He leaves his wife of 35 years, Eva (nee Gretchko) filled with sorrow; brother, Kirk Jones of Fruita, CO; sisters, Kim Garrison of Sandpoint, ID and Wendy Draper of Meridian, ID; good friend and brother-in-law, Tom Gretchko of Euclid Heights, OH; sister-in-law, Marie Campbell of Mansfield, OH; brother-in-law, John Lazar of Akron, OH; and very special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kevin Jones; first wife and their infant; mother and father-in-law, John and Esther Gretchko; and brother-in-law, Andrew Gretchko.
He will be remembered for his generosity, keen wit and curiosity, hospitality, sense of humor, reassuring attitude and laughter. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
