Becky A. Mcneil

October 12, 1929 — October 12, 2017

Becky A. McNeil, 88, of Kent passed away Thursday, October 12, 2017, surrounded by her husband, seven children and extended family.

Becky was born on December 3, 1928, in Springfield, Kentucky to Marvin and Valeria Culley. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Judy Jochim; and grandson, Sam McNeil.

Becky was a proud alumnus of Kent State University with a B.S. in Education. After a brief teaching career in Cleveland, Becky became a lifelong teacher to her children and grandchildren. Becky married Dick McNeil on August 16, 1952. They celebrated 65 years of marriage with a family gathering this past August. Becky was a founding member of the Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Phi Sorority. She was also an active member of the Oak Branch Garden Club of Kent.

Becky was the matriarch of a large and loving family, dispensing her own unique brand of wisdom to her children and grandchildren. Becky and Dick were especially dedicated to the special needs of their son Scotty. Becky loved to host the family at her house and was always the first to start Christmas shopping to ensure that everyone had a special gift.

Becky is survived by her loving husband, Dick McNeil; seven children, Mike McNeil (Sue), Jill Shoda (Bob), Greg McNeil (Lori), Joy Schmelz (Mark), Kathy Rich (Bruce), Beth Trivelli (Pete) and Scotty, the cornerstone of the family. Becky is survived by 14 grandchildren, Chris McNeil, Jenny Callahan (Tom), Paul McNeil (Bernadette), Jonathan Shoda, Nick Shoda, Bryan Shoda, Mathew McNeil (Krystal), Amy McNeil, Nichole Schmelz, Daniel Schmelz, Emily Rich, Ben Rich, Michael Trivelli, and Angela Trivelli; and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Jack Adams; brother, Bob Culley; niece, Kim Bell; and many other nieces and nephews.

The McNeil family is eternally grateful to Dr. Yanelli. The limitless medical support he provided Becky will always be remembered and appreciated. We are also grateful to Carolyn and Rachel from Hospice for the extraordinary care given Becky as she battled cancer. They provided the family much needed emotional support during a difficult time.

Friends and family will be received Monday, October 16, 2017 from 4-7 pm at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 10 am at the University Parish Newman Center at Kent State University, officiated by Father Steve Agostino. Donations in Becky's name can be made to Cover2.org, dedicated to helping loved ones fighting opioid addiction.
