Betty A. Fry, 66, of Kent, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio.

She was born December 26,1944 in Sunbury, PA, the daughter of John and Mercy (Clarke) Snyder.

Betty graduated from Sunbury High School in 1962. She set out on a career in nursing at Geisinger Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Danville, PA. She worked at Sunbury Community Hospital while pursuing additional studies through the Regents External Degree Program of the State of New York and obtained an Associate Degree in Nursing. Thereafter she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA.

Upon moving to Ohio, Betty worked as a Registered Nurse at Edwin Shaw Hospital in Akron and began coursework at Kent State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department of St. Thomas Hospital in Akron. While there she pursued graduate study at the University of Akron and received the degree of Master of Science in Nursing. She then continued her career at Akron General Medical Center as Registered Nurse and Clinical Manager of the Emergency Department on the evening shift until her retirement in 2002. She was a member of St. Patrick Church in Kent.

Betty was married to Harold P. Fry on June 2, 1985. Together they shared nearly 26 years of memories. Her first marriage was in 1964 to John W. Hoffman, with whom she had two daughters, Laura and Jennifer.

Betty enjoyed needlecraft, especially knitting and counted cross-stitch, and she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and loving grandmother "Nanny ." She will be deeply missed by her family.

In addition to her husband, Harold, she is survived by her mother, Mercy (Clarke) Snyder of Lewisburg, PA; her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Daniel Lattanzio of Leominster, MA; her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Dwayne Robare of Leominster, MA; and her beloved granddaughters, Meghan, Sofia, Adrianna, Gabrielle and Genevieve. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, William and Ellen Snyder of Northumberland, PA; her nephew, William Snyder and wife Heidi of Escondido, CA; her cousin, Marjorie Payne of Media, P A; her cousin, Mercy Snyder of Lewisburg; her cousin Lawrence Clarke of Cincinnati, OH; her cousin Marjorie Reitmeyer of Muncy, PA; and her cousin Michael Clarke of Williamsport, PA. She was preceded in death by her father, John Snyder.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at St. Patrick Church in Kent with Father Richard J. Pentello officiating. A private service will be held later in Massachusetts for family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association Ohio Valley Affiliate, 5211 Madison Road, Cincinnati, OH 45227. Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory are handling the arrangements.
