Bobbie Jean Kimak

August 19, 1948 — August 19, 2016

Bobbie Jean Kimak, 68, of Kent, died Friday, August 19, 2016 at McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, MI following a car accident.

She was born March 30, 1948 in Akron to Robert and Viva K. (Good) Boatner. Bobbi was retired from Home Depot where she worked in the home decor department. Bobbi also worked at JoAnn Fabrics in the home decor department for many years. In her youth, Bobbi was a carhop at the A&W in Kent where she met her husband, Ken. She and Ken shared a love of drag racing and owned at least a half dozen Hemi powered race cars throughout their shared racing days that began in 1970. Their love of Hemis earned them the nicknames Hemiman and Hemiwoman.

She dedicated her life to raising her daughters, investing great time and energy in their lives. Being a grandmother gave Bobbi great joy. She was a dedicated fan of her older grandson Lucas' music career. She and Ken enjoyed attending his jazz gigs whenever he came to town. Bobbi loved sharing her love of cars and drag racing with her younger grandson Eli who would often accompany his grandparents to car shows and races.

Bobbi's life was blessed with many friends, including a large community of automobile enthusiasts. Her final days were filled with joy and pride as she and Ken traveled to Michigan and met up with friends for HEMI'nsanity, four days of drag racing, including legal sanctioned street racing down the historic Woodward Avenue in Pontiac, MI where Ken was a finalist. Bobbi's life was tragically ended in a non-racing related car accident following this event.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Kimak, whom she married on October 30, 1971; daughters, Rhonda (John Spivak) Kadish of Hudson and Darla Kiko of Kent; grandson, Eli Kiko and his father Bryan Kiko; grandson, Lucas Kadish and his father Eugene Kadish; and brothers, Jack Boatner of Warren, Richard (Mary Ann) Boatner of Stow, and Dick (Sally) Crowell of Maumee. She was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Kate and Dick Litzenburg.

Calling hours will be held 5-8 PM Sunday, August 28th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent where funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, August 29th with Kevin O'Brien leading a celebration of her life. Burial will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Animal Protective League, 8122 Infirmary Road, Ravenna, OH 44266.
