Bret Michael Grund

June 19, 1987 — March 18, 2020

Bret Michael Grund, 32, of Brimfield/Kent, Ohio peacefully passed away on March 18th, 2020 at his home with family.  The cause of death was an aggressively growing brain tumor, GlioBlastoma Stage 4, that he bravely but unsuccessfully fought since April 1, 2014 when he had his brain surgery.

Bret M Grund was born in Akron, Ohio to Michael M Grund and Edith (Muci) J Grund (Palinkas) on June 19th, 1987.

He went to Kindergarten at Field Central, Mogadore (2000;) 1-8th grades at St Patrick’s, Kent (2001;) and Archbishop Hoban High School, Akron (2005.)  He graduated from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green with a Bachelors Degree in Business and Marketing (2010.)  He also participated in musicals and plays.  He worked as in many different jobs including logistics for Freight Company in Cincinnati, account representative for Solar City in California, and merchandiser up until April 2019 when he suffered a seizure that ended his working career.  He lived in Maryland, San Francisco area, Cincinnati, and Akron.  He traveled to Europe (Hungary & Germany) Cancun, Mexico, Toronto, Canada and all over U.S. celebrating and joining his friends at Mardi gras in New Orleans, Las Vegas, Panama City, and frequent Napa Valley trips.  His last trip was to visit his sister in Florida before she moved back to Ohio.  He loved his beer challenge events around the area and earned their special rewards as his father and friends joined him.  He loved Monday night movie/dinner nights with his mom and as many concerts, musicals, and plays with as many people he usually and easily convinced.  He took part in most sports beginning with soccer, ballet, gymnastics, Little League, Junior, and Hoban baseball, CYO & Hoban basketball, softball, Hoban football, Hoban lacrosse, and Hoban track.  He earned a 1st degree Brown belt in Tai Kwon Do when he was 14.  He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha-Pike and was involved and loved all Cleveland sports, “win or lose.”  He was a member of the “Cleveland Browns Backers” and the “Cleveland Indians Fan Club.”  He loved “Friends” trivia night.  He celebrated his birthday watching the Cavaliers win the NBA in 2016 on vacation in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Bret M Grund is preceded in death and who will be guiding him during his transition by his grandparents Janos (Big John) & Hedwig Palinkas; Rosezella (Rosi) Grund (who he loved talking sports with for long hours;) Robert Grund; and his Uncle Dana Huntley.

Bret M Grund is survived by his parents Michael & Edi (Edith) Grund; his sister Scarlett Grund; Uncle Harry (Chet) Rowley & Aunt Susan (Palinkas) Sipes (Janos/Johnny & Megan Rowley (Kala & Parker) & Ashley Rowley (Austin, Haley, Leksi, & Saun Clark,)) ; Uncle & Aunt Gregory and Laureen Grund  (McCarty) (Joshua, Jesse, & Julie;) Uncle & Aunt Dennis and Karen Grund (Mohlmaster) (Heather (Joseph) & John Rebeck (Thea, Joseph, & Evan;) and Justin & Almeda (Verchik) Grund)); Aunt Dorinda (Rinda) Grund; and Uncle Robert (Bob) Huntley (Grace, Cole, & Logan;)  He had so many friends that listing them here would be a disservice to Bret’s memory.  May all the memories and the gift of finding humor in life stay with you always!

By the deceased and the family request, there will be no funeral or calling hours.  With many visits and support from countless family and friends during his last months, due to his nature he attracted good-solid true relationships over his young years.  Bret benefited living through his own personal “Celebration of Life” while he was still blessedly alive and alert.  The family thanks you with our hearts and continued love for your compassion and unexpected gifts of love.  We especially thank you for giving us the ability to see the man he turned out to be through your eyes, visits, voices, and memories.  One of the best laughers ever.
