Buddy L. Myers, Ph.D. "Doc", 83, of Sugar Bush Knolls, completed his life cycle on earth Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Akron General Hospital.
Buddy was born August 24, 1932 in Parkersburg, WV, the son of the late Wilbur and Hazel (Hill) Myers. Buddy served in the U.S. Air Force in 1949, and was honorably discharged in January 1953 as a Korean War Veteran. He received a Doctorate of Philosophy Degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1966, taught at Duquesne University, studied economics at the University of London on a Fulbright Scholarship, and moved to Kent, Ohio to accept a position at Kent State University as a Professor of Administrative Sciences where, in 1981, he was appointed Chairman of Administrative Sciences. Here he met his future wife Joan. They were married on December 27, 1968.
Throughout his life, Buddy enjoyed golfing, studying the Russian and German languages, listening to Frank Sinatra, and making those around him smile. He was a member the Lake Forest Country Club, a long-time member of Twin Lakes Country Club where he met and enjoyed the friendship of many of his lifetime golfing acquaintances, a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Kent American Legion. Buddy was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Kent, where, in the early 1970's Father Brengartner formed St. Patrick's first Parish Council in which Buddy was the Chairman. From 1974 through 2012, he was a Eucharistic Minister for St. Patrick's Church. Buddy was Mayor of Sugar Bush Knolls for a period of two year commencing December 4, 1987. He retired from Kent State University in 1994 as an Emeritus Professor of Administrative Sciences at KSU.
He is survived by his wife Joan (Schulman) Myers; daughter, Michele R. Myers; granddaughter, Jacquelyn C. Myers of Kent, and many loving sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Kay Bossie.
The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to neighbors Tom and Mary Sly for their continued assistance. They would also like to thank Arbors at Stow for the extraordinary care they provided for Buddy and the family.
Friends will be received from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, April 4, 2016, at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory in Kent, with the Knights of Columbus service at 5:45 PM. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 5, at St. Patrick Church with Very Rev. Richard Pentello officiating. Burial will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery.
