Carl Anthony Perkowski, 97, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2021 at Holy Family Hospice in Parma. He was one of 10 children born to Polish immigrants, Peter “Piotr” and Emilia (Kaliszewski) Perkowski in Kent, Ohio.
A proud and dignified WW II Army veteran, he distinguished himself on the beaches of Normandy and during other European campaigns including the Ardennes Counteroffensive, also known as the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart Medal, Silver and multiple Bronze Stars.
Mr. Perkowski retired as a Partner of the Kent Mold & Manufacturing Co. A natural athlete, he was a sought after player in local VFW Baseball leagues after the war, and became a passionate and talented golfer. He belonged to multiple golf leagues and post-retirement became a Starter at the former Kent State University Golf Course. He was an avid and devoted gardener, fisherman and reader, and he loved playing cards with his family – even if there were sometimes lively debates about who won.
Mr. Perkowski was a member of St. Patrick Church, where he previously served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was loyal to his favorite sports teams including the Cleveland Indians and Browns, the Kent State Golden Flashes and The Ohio State Buckeyes.
He is survived by his children, Carla Brumby (Hal) of Kent, OH; Michael Perkowski (Lisa) of Memphis, TN; Mikel Ann Perkowski of Kent, OH; Mary Perkowski of Cleveland, OH; Peter Perkowski (Lana) of Cuyahoga Falls, OH and Julie McGraw (Jon) of Cleveland, OH. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and one great-grandson named after him.
As a beloved husband and father, he leaves a wonderful legacy behind. His family finds peace in the knowledge that he was reunited with his wife, Gladys (Williams) Perkowski, who passed away in 2001 after 54 years of marriage – keeping him on his toes through each and every one. She was the love of his life and has waited patiently for him with their baby boy and baby girl triplets. He was also preceded in death by his parents, four loving sisters and five devoted brothers.
Private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church in Kent with Father Richard Pentello V.F. as Celebrant. There will be no visiting hours. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent. Bissler and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory is handling arrangements.
The family is extremely grateful to Holy Family Hospice for their loving and exceptional end-of-life care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Family Hospice, Attn: Donations, 6707 State Road, Parma, OH 44134 (440-866-6038) or via www.staugministries.org.
