Carolyn Munk Cowgill, 63, of Kent, OH, passed away Friday, October 23, 2015 at her residence in Twin Lakes.
She was born May 24, 1952 in Daytona Beach, FL to Frederick and Patricia (Eiermann) Munk but grew up in Katonah, NY. She was a graduate of John Jay High School and continued her education at Baldwin Wallace College where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and met the man who would be her husband for the next 40 years. She began her career as a buyer for May Department Stores in Cleveland. After taking a break to raise a family, she returned to what is now Stow-Kent Macy's and retired from her position as an area sales manager in 2011.
She was a lover of many things - sun, water and sandy beaches; a classic sport coat and quality fashion; healthy food and a hearty glass of wine. She loved to keep her body active and in shape while also spending countless hours making her back patio bloom with beautiful flowers and plants. She was a fan of "frithering" - putzing around, straightening the desk, plucking dead leaves from plants and picking up scattered items of living. She took great care of those who needed a friend or a meal and gave generously to causes she held dear. She was fiercely strong, incredibly wise and had an attitude that was uniquely Carolyn.
She is survived by her husband, James Benjamin Cowgill, whom she married on July 26, 1975; daughter: Lindsay (David Amundson) Cowgill of Columbus, OH; three brothers; Frederick Munk of Stanford, CT, Dr. Richard (Dorothy) Munk of Sylvania, OH, David (Missy) Munk of Carmel, NY; mother, Patricia (Eiermann) Munk of Katonah, NY. She is preceded in death by her son, Benjamin Scott Cowgill and her father, Frederick Louis Munk.
Memorial services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, November 14 at Kent United Church of Christ, 1400 East Main Street, Kent, OH with Rev. Heather C. Wicks officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to The Benny Cowgill Foundation. Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory are handling the arrangements.
