Cecilia Agnes (Griggy) Mathia

Cecilia Agnes (Griggy) Mathia, 81, of Atwater, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023.  She was born in Suffield, OH on April 24, 1942 to the late Harry and Anna Griggy and was a longtime, active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Randolph.  Cecilia was employed as a telephone operator with Ohio Bell and AT&T, retiring in 2009.  She enjoyed getting together with her classmates from St. Joseph School, the 1st Monday of every month.  She was very passionate about St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Tunnels to Towers.  Cecilia enjoyed cooking with her grandchildren and spending time with her close friends at the casino.  She will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who raised four children as a single mother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, John and Timothy Mathia and her six siblings.

Cecilia leaves her children, Vince Mathia IV (Rebecca), Ted Mathia (Tracy) and Tammy Mathia Bragg (Tony); grandchildren, Vincent V, Victoria, Bransyn, Baxtyn and Anthony; and great grandchild Kinnslee.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on THURSDAY, January 4, 2024 at 11:00AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2643 Waterloo Rd. Mogadore, OH 44260, with the Rev. Fr. Zachary Coulter as Celebrant.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.  Visitation will be prior to Mass on THURSDAY from 10:00 – 11:00AM at the church.
