Dr. Charles W. Nichols, 98, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2025 at UH Portage Medical Center.
He was born August 26, 1926 in Port Huron MI to Charles and Edrie (Crooks) Nichols.
Charlie was a World War II Army veteran serving in the Fifth Army in Italy.
On June 10, 1951, Charlie married Ruth Mace in Lancaster, OH. They were married for 62 years until Ruth passed away on September 11, 2013. Charlie never stopped loving and caring for Ruth even after her stroke in 1995. Involved in education for 35 years, he was an educator with the Marion, OH Public School Systems, University of Cincinnati, and Kent State University. At Kent State, he served as Chairman of the Department of Vocational Education. Charlie was a life member of the Ohio Vocational Association, the American Vocational Association, and Iota Lambda Sigma professional fraternity. He was an avid reader and enjoyed his family.
Charlie is survived by his brother, Richard; son Ed (Vicki) Nichols of Munroe Falls; daughter, Jan (Jim) McGinnis of Beaver, PA; grandchildren, Mike, Jennifer, John, & Chris; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Chuck (Christine) Nichols of Windham; grandson, Matt, brothers Gene, Glenn, & Pete; and sisters, Edrie, Jane, & Ann.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 4th from 4PM - 5PM at the United Methodist Church in Kent, 1435 E Main St. Kent, OH 44240, with a memorial service afterwards at 5PM. The Rev. Bob Machovec will be officiating. On Saturday, a private family burial will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery.
