Charles H. "Chuck" Suter, 80, of Ravenna, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, December 22, 2017, from complications of a stroke and ALS.
He was born February 5, 1937 in Ravenna, to Henry Albert and Marie Helen (Shutler) Suter. Chuck grew up in Ravenna and graduated from Ravenna High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Ohio National Guard, receiving an honorable discharge after 8 years of service.
He was a very giving man and did so freely without expecting anything in return. Chuck was a great friend and competitor with a passion for fast/classy cars, cruise-ins, NASCAR, the Cavs and country music.
Chuck had a long career with the Ravenna Fire Department, retiring as a Captain after 28 years. Always wanting to be busy, he worked many part-time jobs in and around the Ravenna/Kent area.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Sprott) Suter, whom he married on November 20, 1971; brother-in-law, Jim (Sandy) Sprott; and many cousins.
He enjoyed people and found new friends everywhere he went. Chuck will always be missed, always loved and always remembered.
His family wishes to thank the staff at the Western Reserve Hospital, Cuyahoga Falls and the Hospice of the Western Reserve Team for their excellent, kind and compassionate care of Chuck.
Chuck's wishes for cremation are being honored. Friends and family will be received from 1-2 PM Wednesday, December 27, to Celebrate Chuck's life, at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where funeral services follow at 2:00 PM with Fr. James Lang officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Hospital, Attn: Memorial Department, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Ravenna Firefighter Local IAFF1340, P.O.
