Christian Paul O'Keeffe, 20, of Kent, OH, died Sunday, May 27, 2012 in Kent, OH.
He was born June 27, 1991 in Akron, OH to Paul and Katherine O'Keeffe. Christian was a loving son, stepson, brother and friend. He was a talented artist and poet, who received second place from the Wick Poetry Scholarship Contest of 2011. He was an intern at the Wick Poetry Center, taught poetry as part of the "Teaching Poetry in the Schools" course at Kent State University to fourth graders at Falcon Academy and seventh graders at Miller South. Christian assisted Maj Ragain with the Warriors Journey Home writing circle, and was featured in the most recent Luna Negra magazine, Kent State University's annual literary publication. He had a beautiful searching soul and inspired everyone around him. He described some of his influences as "the river, Jim Carroll, Maj Ragain, Jack Micheline, Bob Kaufman, moths, deer, blue heron, Kurt Cobain, Arthur Rimbaud, and that ecstatic act of walking."
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his mother Katherine O'Keeffe, father Paul O'Keeffe, stepmother Natasha Levinson, brother Ciaran O'Keeffe, and sisters, Sara O'Keeffe, Lauren O'Keeffe, and Rachel O'Keeffe.
A gathering of friends and family will be held 3:00 PM Friday, June 8th at the John Brown Tannery Park, Stow Street by the river in Kent.
