Claude L. Wise

November 3, 1926 — November 3, 2014

Claude L. Wise, 88, of Suffield, died peacefully with family at his side Monday, November 3, 2014 at Heritage of Hudson.

He was born July 20, 1926 in Randolph to Joseph A. and Agnes M. (May) Wise. He was a World War II veteran serving with the army in the Pacific Theatre. He retired in 1988 after 41 years with Teledyne Monarch Rubber Company. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Randolph and a charter member of the Catholic War Veterans - Our Lady of Lourdes Post 1325.

He is survived by his daughters, Claudia (Danny) Gayhart of Sun City West, AZ, Denise (John) Pelligra of Hudson, OH, and Brenda M. Wise of Canal Fulton, OH; two grandchildren, Elise Pelligra of N Canton, OH and Grant Pelligra of Columbus, OH; sister, Margaret (Norman) Mayer of Alexandria, Virginia; and step-brother, Andrew S. Englehart; sisters-in-law, Lena (Frank) Cirone of N. Canton, OH, and Theresa (Tom) Fleming of N. Canton, OH; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis (Venditti) Wise in 1997; sister, Marita Wise; and brother, Richard H. Wise.

Claude was very easy to like. He was recognizable by his big hearty laugh. He loved family and enjoyed affectionately nicknaming those close to him. He was a proud WWII veteran. His strong Catholic faith got him through the war and life's obstacles. He was always up for a good game of Euchre with a side of popcorn! He really enjoyed gardening and liked growing vegetables, especially peppers! His greatest joy later in life was his grandchildren and spoke of them often to anyone willing to listen.

The family would like to thank Heritage of Hudson and his hospice nurse, Becky, for the loving care shown to Claude this past year.
