With deepest sorrow, we announce that Daniel Wolcott, age 68 our most beloved son, father, grandfather and brother, has passed away on February 5, 2024. We rejoice knowing he is with his Lord and Savior.
Daniel Patrick Wolcott was born in Lafayette, LA to Bill and Donna Wolcott. His family moved to Kent at a young age where he attended St. Patrick’s and then Kent City Schools. Dan always said he had the perfect childhood growing up with a great group of kids on Vine Street. The family moved to Earl Avenue and the group of friends grew. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1973 and was a champion wrestler. He attended Kent State University and was a member of the wrestling team. Dan joined the Army and completed specialized training in German at the Defense Language Institute. He was then stationed in Germany.
After the Army, he returned to Kent and began a very long and successful career operating his own carpet business and was known as Dan the Carpet Man. Dan was very proud that the legacy of Wolcott Carpet will continue through his sons. Dan had a talent for designing and carving intricate specialized rugs.
Dan developed a passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles owning 6 at one time. He participated in many group rides including the annual Father’s Day ride with his special biker friends that he developed true, long-lasting friendships with.
He was a kayak enthusiast starting in high school when he built his first kayak. He wanted an activity he could share with all his sons and teach them each how to paddle safely. Dan celebrated his 50th birthday by jumping out of an airplane.
Dan was an active member of the Kent Garden Club and took great pride in his yard and large koi pond with many fish over 10 years old. He proudly served as a boy scout leader in support of his sons.
Dan was preceded in death by his father William Wolcott. He is survived by his mother Donna Wolcott and his sons, Daniel, Kyle, Ryan, and Noah. He is also survived by his brothers, Thomas (Diana), David (Cindy) and sister Susan (Larry) Shega. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren, Ady, Emily, Oliver, Jude and Gianni.
