David John Ewers, 70, passed away on July 2nd in the comfort of his beloved home, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Akron on January 28, 1952 to the late Thomas and Margaret Ewers and was a graduate of Barberton High School. David went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in English from Kent State University.
Following his graduation in 1977, David briefly taught college English and then turned to writing. He became a reporter in 1978 for Messenger Publications in Rittman and Wadsworth, began a popular but short-lived business publication (Format) for communications professionals in the greater Akron area, entered public relations in 1985 at the International Exposition Center, newly opened in Cleveland, and worked in public relations at Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, and The University of Akron. With a desire for independence, he began his own business in 1995, David J. Ewers Refinishing, and became a uniquely skilled craftsman. He retired in December 2010.
He loved his family, gardening, antiques, old postcards, and his dogs.
David leaves his loving wife, Carol (Souders) Ewers, sons Sean (Mary Louise DeLoy) and Jim Ewers, and granddaughters Naomi and Elinor.
In honoring his wishes, David will be cremated and a memorial service will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022 at 11am at Kent United Church of Christ, 1400 E. Main St. Kent, OH 44240 with the Rev. Amy Gopp officiating.
