David Michael Horner, age 68, of Kent, OH, died on Monday, January 16, 2023 at UH Portage Medical Center.
David was born March 10, 1954 in Ravenna, OH to the late Donald and Marian (Brunswick) Horner.
David served 30 years as a City of Akron employee starting at the Waste-Water Division and eventually retiring from the Parks Department as a Foreman. Upon his retirement, January 31st 2004 was proclaimed by then Mayor of Akron Don Plusquellic as “David M. Horner Day.”
David was an extremely generous, tireless, and hard-working individual. His greatest accomplishment was as dedicated family man. His unwavering lifelong commitment to his three sons, wife, parents, and family will leave a legacy amongst all who knew him. He vowed to always give the best care of Josh and Joe and gave much self-sacrifice to do so. David heavily participated and earned the admiration of many in the special needs community.
David was a racing fanatic and passed his love of Formula 1 and Indycar on to his three sons.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Smithies; sons, Josh, Joe, and Andy (Emily Reese) Horner; brother Jon (Gayle) Horner.
Calling hours will be held 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, 628 W. Main St. Kent, OH 44240. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, January 23, 2023, at First Christian Church with Pastor Amanda Moore officiating.
