Dennis P. McDonough, 58, of University Heights, passed away Friday, January 8, 2016 at Hillcrest Hospital.
Born September 4, 1957 in Solon, to Charles and Germaine (Niesen) McDonough, Dennis was a graduate of the Kent State University School of Architecture and Design and worked as an architect for 35 years. Passionate about the preservation of historical buildings, he was one of the architects that transformed the old Kent Train Station into the Pufferbelly Restaurant in Kent. He also designed the renovation of the Cedar-Lee Theater in Cleveland Heights and Otto Moser's, the oldest restaurant in Cleveland. Dennis enjoyed restoring old cars especially Toyotas and was always renovating the family home. He loved camping, hiking, and playing with his dogs.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jennifer (Freeman) McDonough; daughters, Elise (David Bienenstock) McDonough of Santa Cruz, CA, Rose McDonough DVM of Denver, CO, and Carrie McDonough of Newport, RI; mother, Germaine (Niesen) of Bluffton, SC, brothers, Martin (Cathy) McDonough of Kapolei, HI, Chuck (Laura) McDonough of Grant's Pass, OR, Daniel (Diana) McDonough of Frisco, TX, and Sean (Amy) McDonough of Bellingham, WA; 28 nieces and nephews; and his loving dog, Tommy. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles McDonough; and mother-in-law, Mimi Freeman.
Calling hours will be held 5-7 PM Wednesday, January 13th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory in Kent. Funeral mass will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, January 14 at St. Patrick Church, 313 N. DePeyster Street, Kent.
