Donald Salter Babbitt
Lifelong Kent resident, Donald S. Babbitt, 86, passed away at home, Wednesday, August 20th after a short illness.
Don was born in Akron, September 26, 1932 and attended Kent Schools, graduating in 1950 from Theodore Roosevelt High School. He was employed for many years by Lamson and Sessions Company. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Kent and was a former member of Rockton Masonic Lodge.
Don was a very kind and generous person and friendly to people he met. He enjoyed dining downtown for breakfast or lunch and could be seen walking the several blocks from his home on Earl Avenue, cane in hand. He also enjoyed keeping a close eye on the financial markets, growing roses and playing chess.
Surviving Don is Michelle Proctor, who held a special place in his life for decades. Don considered her the daughter he never had.
Also surviving are several cousins, Sally Wolcott Myers (Jim) of Kent, Carol Wolcott Casey (Terry) of Hilton Head Island, SC, Pam Boucher Anschutz (Lee) of Camden, SC, Mary Salter Eldreth (Bud) of Jacksonville, FL, Ron Salter (Barb), Parkersburg, WV, John Salter (Jean), Denton, TX, Jay Salter (Tina) Atascadero, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ala Salter Babbitt, several aunts and uncles and many cousins, including Jack Salter of Kent.
Cremation has taken place and by his request there will be no calling hours or service.
