Donald James Dressler, 70, passed away in his home in Suffield from a heart attack. His death was unexpected, and his colorful personality will be deeply missed by all those who knew him. Don was devoted and passionate in everything he did, from raising his kids as a single dad, to being active with gardening and running marathons, to working at Key Bank for 34 years, and in all the varied aspects of his life. After serving in the US Army for two years, Don attended law school at the University of Akron, graduating in 1973. After working in private practice, he began his fulfilling career at Key Bank in Canton as a Trust Officer in 1975.
In his retirement, Don enjoyed visiting historical sites in Ohio, attending Zips football games, being an animal lover, and, of course, continuing to work part-time. He was also involved with the Revere High School Alumni Association class of 1962, Phi Sigma Kappa alumni events, and was an active member of the Suffield United Church of Christ for the past 28 years. Don was thrilled to have recently become a grandfather to Hayden and Lenore, and we are thankful that he was able to meet his grandchildren and spend even a short amount of time with them.
Don is survived by his three children, Ben Dressler (Tiffany Wolf), Emily Dressler (Robert Ledyard), and Heidi Dressler; and his grandchildren Hayden Dressler and Lenore Ledyard. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Virginia Dressler; and his sisters, Kathleen Howard and Doris Schofield; along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Cloyd and Ruth Dressler, and brothers, Kenneth and Paul Dressler.
Calling hours will be held 2-5 P.M. Sunday, April 6 at Bissler Funeral Home at 628 W. Main Street in Kent. The service will be held at the Suffield United Church of Christ on Monday, April 7 at 10am. The church is located at 1115 St. Rt. 43. Internment will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Fairlawn.
