Donald P. Ryman, 81, of Streetsboro, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012 at the Aurora Manor in Aurora, OH and has rejoined his beloved wife Patricia in heaven for eternity. He was born on May 17, 1930 in Buffalo, NY and was adopted by Mahlon and Katherine (nee Floetke) Ryman, late of Big Run, PA.
His early career was as a special assistant with the Federal Bureau of Investigations in New York City, NY and Pittsburg, PA. He attended City College of New York (CCNY) and was a graduate of LaSalle University. He married his sweetheart, Patricia Strachan on March 8, 1952 in Winchester, VA and they resided in their hometown of Big Run, PA for a brief time. They moved to Rye Beach (Sandusky), OH where he was employed with Toledo Testing Labs. The family then relocated to Streetsboro in 1956 when Donald was assigned to work on-site, testing concrete during the construction of the Twinsburg Chrysler plant. This led to a 15-year career working in the precast concrete industry with Cleveland Builders and then for an additional 25 years with Fosroc-Preco Industries, Plainsview, NY, with a territory covering the eastern United States. His expertise as a precast technical representative, was in great demand and he garnered the respect and admiration of his peers as a troubleshooter in the industry.
He was a devoted father and is survived by children: Diana Ryman of Ravenna, Cynthia (Kelly) Newsome of Kent, Douglas Ryman of Streetsboro, Carrie Ryman (David Gunn) of Mukwonago, WI and Christopher (Jeanette) Ryman of Aurora, nephew, Harold (Kathy) Ryman of Landsdowne, VA and half-brothers Richard (Ann) Waters of NY and Robert (Wanda) Waters of TX. He was a proud grandfather of eight and great-grandfather of nine. He was preceded in death by his parents Mahlon and Katherine Ryman, his fraternal twin brother, Kermit Ryman of Bethesda, MD in 2007, his birth mother, Gladys Bliss Waite Waters, his half-brother Raymond (Sally) Waters of Marietta, OH and his half-sister, Dorothy Waite Skeels of Little Valley, NY, and his dearest love and wife, Patricia in 1988.
Family was always the focal point in Donald's life and he will be remembered for his generous, caring, a member of the Christian Church of Big Run, PA and served on the Streetsboro, OH Zoning Board of Appeals during the mid-1960's. He was an avid field archery hobbyist most of his life and was a founding member of the Streetsboro (Bowmen) Bowhunters. He took up the sport of golf late in life but was a devotee to the end.
Cremation has taken place and Donald will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery, Big Run, PA on Sunday, April 29, 2012 with a graveside service at 1:30 pm. The family requests that donations, in lieu of flowers, be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org, the Portage Animal Protective League at www.portageapl.org/ or The American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
We were all blessed to have had this kind, loving, compassionate and dignified gentleman in our lives and he will be so very greatly missed.
