Donald E. Titko Sr., 78, of Brimfield, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014 at his home.

He was born November 18, 1935 in Hemlock Ohio, to Elmer and Goldie (Hornyak) Titko Sr. Don attended Kent State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. On July 8, 1955 he married Marie Bonesteel. While stationed in Germany, he and Marie were able to travel throughout Europe. He was a Manager/Accountant for Hilltop Sand and Gravel for 10 years and worked in sales at Henry Bierce Company for 15 years. Don also served as clerk/treasurer for Brimfield Township for 3 years. In 1986 he founded his company Com-Tech of Kent, providing governmental accounting systems, payroll packages and consulting for townships and villages throughout Ohio. Don and Marie were dedicated to their business well beyond retirement. He was a historian and loved to read. Don enjoyed classic cars and over the years collected many classics ranging from 1926 to 1958. He was an avid golfer, story teller, and enjoyed tinkering, working on and restoring his historical home.

Don was an exceptional and loving husband, brother, father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family. The family enjoyed and created many lasting memories while vacationing at the beach. He enjoyed passing along his life experiences and sharing family and local history with his grandchildren. His core values are the essence of how the family aspires to lead their lives.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marie Titko; daughter, Cynthia M. (Gary) Young of Canton; sons Donald E. (Patty) Titko Jr. of Brimfield, Douglas E. (Kris) Titko of Brimfield, and John V. (Brandi) Titko of Canton; grandchildren, Jillian (Dave) Duma, Jenna, Miranda, Kayla, Jonathon and Kelsey Titko, Zachary and Brandon Young and Bailey Ricci; sister, Evelyn Miller of Ravenna; sister-in-law, Marian (Ron) Walters of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Goldie Titko; grandson, Matthew Titko; brothers, James R. and Elmer Titko Jr.

Calling hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 PM Tuesday, March 4th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, March 5th. Burial will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Matthew Titko Scholarship Fund, c/o Key Bank, 1620 S. Water Street, Kent, Ohio 44240.
