Doris Ann Ulrich

February 28, 1936 — February 20, 2014

Our devoted Mother, Doris Ann Ulrich, joined our Dad in heaven on February 20, 2014. Doris was born February 28, 1936 in Riffle, W.Va to Edith L. (Bragg) and Arley E. Foster.

Doris grew up in Brimfield and started working at the tender age of 13 at Seifert's Farm. A few years later Doris rode her bike to downtown Kent to work at Lee's Drugstore. In school, she enjoyed some time as cheerleader, basketball player, ensemble singer and was crowned May Queen. After graduating from Kent State High School, Doris worked at Davey Compressor and Ohio Bell. She married Charles "Chic" Ulrich on November 3, 1956 and became a stay at home mom until her youngest child started school. During those years she fashioned outfits for her girls by recycling her own clothes, worked in her flower gardens and served as a Camp Fire Girls leader. Doris returned to the workforce at Portage National and Society Banks, was an executive assistant at Camp Fire Girls Inc. and finally retired from NEOMED after 13 years of service in 1996. Doris enjoyed many years of couples bowling with favorite friend Lynne (Sprague) Feola and supported Chic and Chuck's baseball teams as scorekeeper. Doris became DoDo to her grandson, Michael Shawn Murphy, and again later to granddaughter, Tia Jordan Ulrich, ensuring each with a savings account and a grandmother's love. She liked a good whiskey sour, playing solitaire, horseshoes, cornhole and reading romance and Father Tim novels.

Doris is survived by her three children, Adreina Murphy, Terri Ulrich and Chuck (Michelle) Ulrich all of Brimfield; grandson, Mick (Ashley) Murphy of Akron and granddaughter, Tia Ulrich of Brimfield; and sister, Sheila Sanor of Atwater. Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 49 ½ years, Chic Ulrich; her brother, Robert Foster; and her parents.

The family wishes to thank her special pen pal Mary Kneale, her companion Jill Shepard and Robinson Visiting Nurse and Hospice especially Nurse Denise and Social Worker Carolyn. Thanks also to the caring staff at Stow Glen Retirement Center. Cremation and private services have taken place. Memorials may be made to the Brimfield Food Cupboard c/o Faith United Methodist Church, 1235 Tallmadge Rd, Kent OH 44240 or to Robinson Visiting Nurse & Hospice, 6847 N Chestnut St, PO Box 1204, Ravenna, OH 44266.
