Dr. Richard William Sears, 87, of Kent, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at Akron General Hospital. He was born in Youngstown on August 27, 1937 to the late Dr. Clarence and Louise Sears and was a 1955 graduate of Boardman High School. Richard went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Ohio University and his medical degree from University of Pittsburgh Medical School. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba from 1968-1970. Dr. Sears served the Portage County Community as an OB-Gyn from 1970-1988. He was a member of United Methodist Church of Kent, Portage County Medical Society, and the Ohio State Medical Association. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports, especially the Buckeyes and Indians and had a great sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his sister Mary Grace Sears.
He leaves his loving wife Mary K. Sears; sons, Douglas (Marian) Sears of Mullica Hill, NJ, Richard (Peggy) Sears of Columbus, OH and David (Thea) Sears of Kent; grandchildren, Will Sears of Columbus, OH, Laura Sears of Columbus, OH, Jason Sears of Kent and Abigail Sears of Kent; sisters-in-law Betty Haley and Rose Ada Milanovich.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 1:00PM at United Methodist Church of Kent, with the Rev. Nathan Howe officiating. Burial will follow at Standing Rock Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11:00AM-1:00PM on Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans or United Methodist Church of Kent.
