Michael C. Malmisur, Ph.D., 89, of Kent, Ohio, passed away on August 16, 2023, surrounded by his family’s love.
Dr. Malmisur was born on March 2, 1934, in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of the late Joseph and Theresa Malmisura. Married to the former Karen Hult, together they cherished over 60 years of marriage.
Dad was a man of many talents. A graduate of East High School in Youngstown, he played baseball and football, and was an award-winning artist. He attended Heidelberg College where he was a standout quarterback and record holding punter.
Dad earned his doctorate from The Ohio State University and was a faculty member at Kent State University until retirement. He was a scholar and beloved teacher, earning the title of Emeritus Professor and the University’s Distinguished Teaching Award.
He is survived by his wife Karen; two daughters, Attorney Joanna Malmisur of Canfield, Ohio, and Kristin (Dr. Charles) Jacobs of De Pere, Wisconsin; two grandsons, Ian and William Jacobs; brother-in-law Arthur (Sue) Hult; sister-in-law Olga Malmisur (the late Joseph Malmisur) and many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to his devoted caregivers. There will be no calling hours and a private mass will be held at a later date.
