Dr. Stan H. Christensen, PhD, died on April 29, 2023, at 9:10pm while surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife and lifelong partner of 65 years, Bernie Christensen. Stan leaves behind an incredible legacy of Teaching, Mentoring, Volunteering, drumming, and involvement on several Charity boards. Stan was a Physics Professor at Kent State University where he was the Physics Chair from 1983-1995 and earned the Professor Emeritus Distinguished Teaching Award in 1970. Stan wrote the book for a class that he started called “Physics in Entertainment and The Arts”. This class is still being taught today at KSU. Stan came to Kent State University in 1964 for his first teaching job after graduating from Cornell University with his doctorate in Physics. He loved teaching and was also a gifted musician, playing in several local bands; Tony’s Angels, Cuyahoga Falls Band, Doctor’s Orchestra and several more. Stan composed a percussion ensemble piece while in college called “Rushin’ Percussion”. He was involved with United Christian Ministries, Operation Physics (which he brought to Kent, Ohio in 1990), Meals on Wheels, Portage County Clothing Center, KSU Orchestral Society, YMCA Indian Guides and Roosevelt HS Band Boosters. Stan was the Moderator of the Eastminster Presbytery in 1986 and very involved in the Kent Presbyterian Church as an Elder, Deacon and all-around volunteer. Stan is survived by his 4 children (known to friends as the “4-Ks); Ken, Kaci, Keith and Kevin. He also is survived by six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 11:00AM at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home, 628 W Main St, Kent, OH 44240. Visitation will be prior to the service, from 10:00AM-11:00AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests any donations be made to UCM, United Christian Ministries in Kent, Ohio. www.myucm.org.
