Edward "Dick" Sawyer

Edward W. "Dick" Sawyer, 77, of Rootstown, died Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at UH Portage Medical Center in Ravenna.

He was born June 22, 1938 in Kent to Edward P. and Mary Elizabeth (Conrad) Sawyer. He was a veteran of the Air Force and was retired from GM where he was a Tool Maker. He was a member of Portage County Train Walkers Hiking Club, North Coast Triumph Association, and University Parish Newman Center.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann H. (Cetera) Sawyer, whom he married on November 15, 2002; son, Stephen (Ariel) Sawyer of Kent and Brian Sawyer of Kent; daughter, Amy (Ty) Trumpower of Louisville; grandchildren, Amanda Reder of Louisville, Alyssa Reder of Louisville, Alexis Reder of Louisville, and Anthony Reder of Louisville; step-children, David Kurkey of Uniontown, Daniel (Jennifer) Kurkey of Rootstown, Donald (Michelle) Kurkey of Rootstown, and Denice (Phil) Taylor of Medina; eight step-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; brothers, Charles "Ben" Sawyer of Willoughby, James Sawyer of Kent, and Donald Sawyer of Berea; and sisters, Agnes Sawyer of Kent and Mary Alice "Mitzie" (Mike) Lenzo of Kent. He was preceded in death by his siblings, William Sawyer, Margaret Kaminski and Elizabeth Jane Bradfield; in-laws, Joe Kaminski, Barbara Sawyer, Diana Sawyer, Doris Sawyer, and Florence Sawyer.

Services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, June 27th at the University Parish Newman Center with Fr. Steve Agostino officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the services at church. Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory will be handling the services.
