Edward Stolish, 74, passed away on May 15th, 2022 with his family by his side, after three years of declining health.

Ed was born in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania to Stanley and Elizabeth Stolish.  He was raised in Harlansburg, Pennsylvania and graduated from Laurel High School.  He continued his education at Youngstown State University.

He then continued on to Hiram College where he graduated with a B.A. Degree.  After a few years he attended Kent State University working on his Masters Degree in Journalism.

Volunteering was very important to Ed.  He began at the International Institure in Youngstown, Ohio, teaching English and driving instruction to Laotian refugees. After his daughter, Lisa, became the social worker at The Hattie Larlham Foundation for severely disabled children, he decided to volunteer by taking some of the children swimming to help ease their pain.  He loved the children and made many good friends.

The Portage Animal Protective League won his heart over.  After retirement, Ed would go in and walk the dogs in the shelter two or three times a week for ten years.  He was known as “Ed, the dog walker”.  He won them all over and there was never a dog, in time, that would not be his friend.  It was estimated that he walked dogs over 5,000 miles.

Ed enjoyed hiking and fly fishing, especially in the Allegheny National Forest. Nowhere was he more happy, than enjoying the silence of nature and a fly rod in his hand.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, and his loving grandparents.  He is survived by his wife, Margaret, who together celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on Valentine’s Day; his daughter Lisa, whom he loved dearly and was so proud; his son-in-law, Joel Sr., a kind and loving soul; and his beloved grandson, Joel Jr., who brought such love, joy and happiness to his life; sisters, Marsha White and Donna Kennedy. He also leaves his pals Hanna, Joe. Izzy, and Bunny.

Per Ed’s wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no services.

If desired, donations may be made in his honor to the Portage Animal Protective League, 8122 Infirmary Road Ravenna, Ohio 44266 to help out all of his furry friends.
