Eleanor Marie Zavodny, 87, of Kent, died Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Hospice Care Center.
She was born November 18, 1928 in Cleveland, to Anthony J. and Marie A. (Lhota) Suchy. Eleanor was a 1945 graduate of Marymount High School and graduated cum laude from Ursuline College in 1950. She was a librarian at South High School in Cleveland before raising her family. Eleanor was a member of St. Patrick Church, Kappa Gamma Pi Honor Society, Kent Civil War Society, and Kent Historical Society. Eleanor enjoyed gardening and sharing her Lilac Gardens with the community the last few years.
She is survived by sons, Dr. Robert (Tom) Zavodny of Akron, Stephen A. (Jan) Zavodny of Highland, MI and Thomas Zavodny of Akron; daughter, Elena Zavodny of Euclid; grandchildren, Matthew Zavodny, Melissa Zavodny, and Jason Moore; great grandson, Anthony T. Zavodny; and sister, Mary Lou Ascherl. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen J. Zavodny.
Calling hours will be held 5-8 PM Thursday, October 20 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Funeral mass will be held 1:00 PM Friday, October 21 at St. Patrick Church. Burial will be held at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Kent Historical Society, 237 East Main Street, Kent, OH 44240, in her name for the preservation of the Lilac Gardens.
