Elizabeth "Bette" Hughes Heisa, age 98, of Kent, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019.
Elizabeth was born March 7, 1921, to Calvin and Ethel (Booth) Hughes in Ravenna.
She graduated from Charlestown High School and the Oberlin School of Commerce in Oberlin, Ohio.
For the duration of WW II, she was employed at the Ravenna Arsenal in the personnel and teletype departments. The next several years she worked in the old court house in Ravenna, as secretary to Calvin Rausch, Superintendent of the Portage County Board of Education. It was there she met and married Charles Heisa. Together they had two sons Mark and Grant.
Following that she was a stay-at-home mom until her sons entered school in Charlestown. During that Period, she became active in Cub Scouts as well as, working with a group of mothers in the township on projects to finance and establish the first full time kindergarten class for the school.
The last and very best years of employment before retiring in 1981 were with the Ravenna City Schools as secretary with both Superintendents Jim Whittaker and Jim Call.
She leaves family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Ethel (Booth) Hughes; and sister, Vivian Davies. Survived by sons, Mark (Karen) Heisa of Edinburg and Grant Heisa of Kent; grandson Christopher Tarby and his family; nephews, David (Deborah) Davies and Rees Davies both of Landenberg, PA.
