Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Konos

February 23, 1924 — October 27, 2015

Elizabeth A "Betty" Konos, 91, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at her residence in Kent, where she had recently moved from Medina.

Born February 23, 1924 to Nicholas and Annie (Skowran) Hasapas, Betty was raised in Dunkirk, NY and was a 1943 graduate of Dunkirk High School. She worked for the War Department in Detroit, MI, as did so many young women during World War II. Following a whirlwind courtship, she married Nick Konos of Youngstown on November 13, 1948. They were wed for 65 years until his death in August 2014.

Betty was a wonderful homemaker, well known for her cooking, baking and sewing. When her two girls were young, she made much of their clothing. Her pie crusts were better than Marie Callender's and everyone loved her potato fans. From early days singing in her church choir in Dunkirk, Betty retained her love of singing, even if it was just singing around the house. Those who knew her will remember her always smiling and positive outlook. Often in need of help herself, she was only too happy to help those in greater need. Indeed, she may have been the one 'child of The Great Depression' unafraid to give away things she no longer used. The family teased her mercilessly about this! Though she would never admit to it, Mom lived to serve others. In later years, she enjoyed reading and outings with family.

Betty was absolutely young at heart, willing to try new ways of doing things. Her physical appearance belied her actual age, indeed her hair remained a salt and pepper color at the age of 91. She was proud to laughingly call herself a "little old lady who's not afraid of anybody!" She seemed genuinely surprised that those who met her once remembered her. Her family was not so surprised and cherished her for this. She is dearly loved and greatly missed by her family and all those lucky enough to have known her. Mom, you can finally rest and let Someone serve YOU.

She is survived by two daughters, Diane (Tim) Lassan of Kent and Linda Silver of Warren; grandson, Michael Silver of Warren; great grandson, Tyler Silver; sister, Alma Metz of Loma Linda, CA; sister-in-law, Bessie Pauscher of North Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 13, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Standing Rock Cemetery in the Cremation Garden. Bissler and Son Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Animal Protective League, 8122 Infirmary Road, Ravenna, OH 44266.
