Elsie Mae Joy, 89, of Aurora died November 23, 2017. She was the daughter of Ida and Harley Fuller and beloved wife of John "Jack" Joy, all who preceded her in death. Mother of Claudia Sawyer, David (Sherry Bentley) Joy, Lucinda "Cindy" (Emory) Rodgers, Dan (Lisa Dibert) Joy and Dr. Linda (Dr. Anthony) Calciano and Dr. Deborah (Kenneth) Bergman. Grandma and GG to many. She was preceded in death by her brother Ralph Fuller, and her three sisters Dorothy Richards, LaVerna Hardie and Viola Frew.

She graduated from Strongsville High School in 1946. During WWII she worked on her father's farm fitting fields with an old Farmall tractor and driving the horses. She served as church secretary of The Kent United Methodist Church where she was a member for 56 years and was a Deacon of the Cambridge Presbyterian Church. She was president of the Theodore Roosevelt High School PTA 1974-75. A member of Mary Reed Circle, Coterie II, Chestnut Society, Kent Garden Club, and former member of Woman's Club of Kent. She was the founder of the Red Hat Steppers a group she was very passionate about. She served in many capacities of Meals on Wheels from its inception to 1968; including President and promoting the program to service clubs in an effort to raise funds and recruit volunteers to deliver meals.

Elsie helped to save the Beebetown Baptist Church from demolition, where she married Jack on August 7, 1946. Elsie and Jack were named administrators of the Terry Lee Fuller Association in 1997 after the deaths of her brother and sister-in-law in honor of their son who died at the age of 14. The fund benefited many non-profits in Kent and Cleveland.

She was happiest when her family was gathered in one place. She loved cats, travelling, birds, flowers, cooking, entertaining and taking pictures.

The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Independence Village, Crossroads Hospice and Home Instead Senior Care.

Calling hours will be held from 6-9 PM Wednesday, November 29th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, November 30th at the United Methodist Church of Kent, interment immediately following at Standing Rock Cemetery.
