Ergun Baharoglu, 92, of Kent, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024, in the comfort of his home, with his family by his side. Ergun was born in Istanbul, Turkey on May 10, 1932. He immigrated to the United States in 1956 at the age of 24 to obtain his Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas. After residing and working in Lawerence, Kansas, and Hagerstown, Maryland, he settled in Norwalk, Ohio, where he established Baharoglu & Associates Consulting Engineers and Surveyors and became an involved community member. After living in Norwalk for 41 years he moved to Kent, Ohio, to live closer to his grandchildren. In his retirement he enjoyed his passions for running, photography, birding, travel, and spending time with his family. Ergun was a kind and generous man with a wonderful sense of humor who lived a full life. He will be dearly missed by his family.
Ergun was preceded in death by his parents, Necati and Munime Baharoglu. He is survived by his siblings, Engin Baharoglu (Belma) of Istanbul, Turkey, Ustun Baharoglu of Istanbul, Turkey, Emil Baharoglu of Bodrum, Turkey; his three daughters, Barbara Kelly (William) of Maitland, Florida, Selma Baharoglu (Gerald Denk) of Maitland, Florida and Elizabeth Eaken (Chip) of Kent, Ohio; his two grandchildren, Heather Eaken of Kent, Ohio, and Robin Eaken of Kent, Ohio; his nephew, Mehmet Baharoglu of Istanbul, Turkey; and his great-nephew Kuzey Baharoglu of Istanbul, Turkey.
In honoring his wishes, Ergun will be cremated and there will be no formal services.
