Esther "Johnson" Gretchko

January 29, 1918 — March 13, 2013

Esther E. Gretchko, 95, of Kent, died Wednesday March 13, 2013 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.

She was born January 29, 1918 in Cleveland to Peter and Julia (Esik) Johnson.

After retiring, she and her husband enjoyed living summers on the Outer Banks of North Carolina where they opened a donut shop. They also enjoyed spending winters in Venice, Florida, while still spending time at the family home in Kent. Both were avid woodcarvers and past members of the Tree City Carvers and Gulf Coast Carvers of Sarasota, FL. The Gretchkos were lovers of life and each other and loved by many.

She is survived by her sons, John (Beverly) Lazar of Akron and Thomas Gretchko of Cleveland; daughters, Marie (Verne) Campbell of Mansfield and Eva (Barry) Jones of Venice, FL and Chicago; grandchildren, David (Luz) Campbell, Julie (Mike) Kneale, Greg (Andrea) Campbell, Jenni (Brian) Wehry, Eric (Leann) Campbell, and John Lazar; great grandchildren, Alan, Danny and Kathy Kneale, Eva Marie and Katie Wehry, Benjamin and Daria Campbell; sister, Martha-Jean (Frank) Conner and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, John V. Lazar and John Gretchko; son, Andrew John Gretchko; sisters, Sally Ludick and Helen Schmidt and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Zemanek.

Calling hours will be held 10 AM until 11 AM Saturday, March 16th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home 628 West Main Street, Kent, where services will be held 11:00 AM, with Fr. Edward Gretchko officiating. Burial will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 525 North Broad Street, Canfield, OH 44406.
