Esther (Teri) Smart Monteith peacefully passed away at home in Kent, Ohio on September 19, 2018. She was born in Columbus, Ohio to Louis Edwin and Esther John Hephzibah (Guthery) Smart on July 21, 1930. She graduated from Oberlin College in 1952 with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in sociology. Teri worked for Nationwide Insurance in Columbus, Ohio and later was the Director of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Portage County, retiring after 17 years of service to the local community. A charter member and elder of the Kent Presbyterian Church she was active with the congregation for 59 years. She was also an affiliate member of Riverside Presbyterian Church in Cocoa Beach, FL.
Teri married Chalmers Alexander Monteith, who predeceased her. Surviving Teri are three children: Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) Laura L. Monteith of Dublin, Ohio; Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) Alexander E. Monteith of Cocoa Beach, Florida; Jennifer J. Monteith D.M. of Annapolis, Maryland and two grandsons: Victor Alexander Monteith, Esquire, of Clearwater, Florida; and David W. Monteith of Tampa, Florida. A private interment service will be held in Florida at a later date.
