Filipp Polz, 89, passed away peacefully on October 4th at Mulberry Gardens in Munroe Falls.
He was born March 15, 1926, in Franzfeld, Yugoslavia and immigrated to the US with his family in 1951.
An employment opportunity brought him to Kent, a city he instantly fell in love with and would call home for the next 56 years. He operated Fil's Tailor Shop on North Water Street in Kent for nearly 47 years and took such pride in his work and so loved the companionship of his customers that he didn't retire until the age of 72. He will forever be remembered as "Fil the Tailor."
His hobbies were making sausage and wine with his family and working in his yard on Sunrise Drive in Kent. He was a member of the Freiheit, Janota Club, and the German Family Society where he gathered with friends and family to embrace his heritage.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Katharina, as well as his parents and five siblings. He is survived by sons, Bob (Nancy) Polz, Bernie (Sharon) Polz, and Mike (Sandy) Polz; daughter, Debbie (Mark) Recktenwald; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister in law Mary Rickert; as well as many nieces and nephews in the US and Germany.
The family would like to thank Dr. Atul Goswami, and the staff and residents at Mulberry Gardens for making Fil feel at home for the last 5½ years.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, October 9th, at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home at 628 West Main Street, Kent.
