Francis William Meloy

September 5, 1926 — April 21, 2010

Francis W. Meloy, 83, of Kent, completed the circle of life April 21, 2010 at the Robinson Hospice Unit with his family by his side helping to guide him. Born September 5, 1926, to Clifford and Madeline Meloy, he had resided in the Kent area for 80+ years. He was employed as a machinist at Ferry Machine, Goodyear Aircraft, Pioneer Tool and Die and Tree City Mold. He served the city of Kent as a firefighter for 25 years. His pleasures were camping, traveling with his wife, especially to the Great Smokey Mountains and the seashore, feeding the birds that visited his bird feeders and being a "Mr. Fix-It-Man". He worked with the Boy Scouts and youth baseball. As a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, he was involved in many of the church's activities and the Trinitarians group. He had worked with Mobile Meals and was a member of the Police and Fire Association and the Rubber City Treasure Hunters Club. He enjoyed T.V. wrestling and was a great Marilyn Monroe fan! The Kent Board of Education approved a high school diploma to him because he did not complete high school before entering the U.S. Army to serve in W.W. II. He was touched by this gesture. He is survived by his wife, Marie (Newboles), to whom he was married 61 years; daughter, Julianne (Tom) Dezort of Ravenna; son, Michael (Diana) Meloy of Stow. He had six grandchildren, Katie (Fred) Lange of Mantua, Denise (Michael) Broyles of Kent, Annette (Darrick) Dean of New Castle, PA, Jeremy Meloy of Streetsboro, Shawna (Rob) Metheney of Atwater, and Mikala Meloy of Kent. He was "Papa Great" to six great-grandsons. Also surviving him are his sisters, Phyllis (John) Lucas and Martha (Don) Miller; brothers-in-law, Alvin (Mildred) Brown and David (Mimi) Brown all of Kent; numerous nephews and nieces; and long time friend of the family, Barb Carr. Sydney, his shared dog, will sorely miss him. "Mr. M" was a dependable and good neighbor and had many friends. Although he was a man of few words, his family was very important to him and his actions revealed that fact in many ways. His sisters, Lila Hazell and Lois Eagle preceded him in death. Calling hours will be 4-7 P.M. Monday, April 26th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Friends and family many also visit one hour prior to the 11:00 A.M. funeral Tuesday, April 27th at Trinity Lutheran Church, 600 South Water Street, Kent, with Rev. Betti Hazelton and Rev. Douglas Fidler officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kent Firefighters Association, P.O. Box 923, Kent OH 44240 or Trinity Lutheran Church - Building and Mortgage Fund, 600 S. Water Street, Kent, OH 44240.
