Frank Popson, 73, of Kent, passed to his Lord May 6, 2011 from the Palliative Care Unit at Akron City Hospital.
He was born September 17, 1937 in Uniontown, PA to Steve and Mary (Yurick) Popson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. As an involved dad he coached Little League baseball, enjoyed family camping and shared his love of bowling with his family. His second love was baseball and played for the Lake Brady United Methodist Church softball team as a pitcher for many years. In more recent years Frank became a popular and accomplished bowler at the Twin Star Lanes. Continuing even after becoming a double amputee 17 years ago. It is with this spirit, of Frank's that many people were encouraged and inspired to move forward through adversity. He loved gardening and woodworking, building bird houses and giving them to others so they too, could enjoy nature. Frank was Ohio's most ardent Steeler's fan.
He is survived by his present wife of 19 years, Diane (Tkach); his former wife, Sylvia; sons, Gary (Sandie), Tim (Cyndi) and Randy (Annette); daughter, Lisa (Joe Dibona) Popson; grandchildren, Mitchell, Andrew, Alex, Cory, Jamie and Haley Popson; brother, Steve (Carol); sisters, JoAnne Ondick and Roseanne Bennent; Diane's children, Robert (Cynthia) Tkach and Andrew (Shannon) Tkach; and grandchildren Andrew, Alex, Greyson and Branson Tkach; great grandchildren, Zachary and Kennedy; and many nieces and nephews especially Debbie, Diane and Donna. He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Mary (Yurick) Popson; best friend, Everett Hoover and Phil Richards.
Calling hours will be held 3-7 PM Tuesday, May 10th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory in Kent. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 11th at First Christian Church with Rev. Ralph S. Wearstler officiating. Burial will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery.
