Fred Allan, 86, of Kent, passed away peacefully Friday, September 11, 2015.
He was born December 19, 1928 in Akron, Ohio. Fred was a Captain in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He graduated from Kent State University with a BS degree in Accounting, and pursued that career throughout his life. He enjoyed golfing, tennis, and spending time with his family and many friends. He was a past commander of the American Legion Post #496 in Kent, Ohio, as well as a member of the Honor Guard. Fred taught computer classes in many venues, but most recently at the Skeels-Matthew Community Center in Ravenna, Ohio, where he enjoyed the friendships developed there. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Fred was one of a kind, and anyone who knew him has a "Fred" story to tell.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Brewster) Allan; children, Debby McIntyre of Miamisburg, OH; Buck (Laurie) Allan of Austin, TX; and Christy (Tom) Varrato of Mahwah, NJ; step-daughter, Stacie (Glenn) Sandrock of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; grandchildren, Heather and Kristen McIntyre, Jonathan, Miles, and Luna Allan, Alexis Varrato, Daniel Betkoski, and Brooke Boyd; and many cousins who enjoyed his great sense of humor. He will be missed by his constant canine companion, Iris Rose. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Isabel (Herwick) Allan; and his sister, Sue Carolyn Allan.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2015 from 1-3 PM and 5-7 PM at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, with American Legion Honor Guard Salute held at 7:00 PM. Burial will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
