Gary C. Schultz, 53, of Kent, died Sunday, January 1, 2017 at Cleveland Clinic Foundation following a fierce battle with cancer.
He was born November 13, 1963 in Bedford, to Robert and Myra (Linehan) Schultz. Gary graduated from Kent State University with a BS degree in Criminal Justice in 1988. He worked a combined 28 years for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections and the Ohio Department of Youth Services most recently serving as the Fiscal Program Manager at the Cuyahoga Hills Juvenile Correctional Facility. He humbly received many awards and honors over the years to recognize the positive impact he made with the youth, adults and the facilities he served.
Gary had a positive outlook, a love of all people he met, was a devoted family man, a lifelong Indians fan, a walking encyclopedia of Marvel and DC comics, and a superhero to many.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle (Cope) Schultz, whom he married on March 17, 1990; son, Ryan Schultz of Kent; daughter, Taylor Schultz of Kent; father, Robert (Donna) Schultz of Brecksville; brothers, Robert (Cindy) Schultz and Jeff (Ellie) Schultz; sister-in-law, Holly (Ron) Hoover; brothers-in-law, Don (Mandy) Cope, Bruce (Desiree Watson) Baumgardner; step-brothers, Michael and David Hajek; step-sisters, Abigail (Gary) Oberc, Holly (Riles) Reilly, Heidi (Jonathan) Polcen and Jeannine (Frank) Mroczka. He was preceded in death by his mother, Myra Schultz In 1997.
Calling hours will be held 7-9 PM Friday, January 6th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, January 7th with Kevin O'Brien officiating.
