George A. Seavers

George A. Seavers, 90, formerly of Brimfield, died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Kent Healthcare Center.

He was born March 17, 1925 in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, to Albert and Christiana (Chester) Seavers. He attended Hanson and Lapage High Schools. He worked in the grocery trade and later in the carpentry and undertaking trade as an apprentice. He served in the British Army from April of 1943 until March of 1949 seeing service during the World War II in France, Belgium, Holland, and the Rhine crossing into Germany in support of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division as an Artillery Gunner and Radioman. After the end of the War, he transferred into the Military Police serving a further 3 years in Germany; serving two of those years as Acting Quarter Master.

He met his ex-wife, Eleanor, whilst stationed in Brunswick, Germany. She was an American citizen at the time. He returned to civilian life and became an agent for The Prudential Insurance Company of Great Britain. Along with his wife and two daughters, Beverley and Mary Tina, they came to America in June of 1956 to Akron. He was employed by William Reynolds Trucking Company as a truck helper, then driver, and eventually on the opening of the Reynolds Warehouse, he became the warehouse foreman responsible for the storage of Ohio Bell, Western Electric, and AT&T equipment. He retired after 30 years of service.
He did reside in Brimfield since January of 1961; and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Kent where he served in various capacities including Church Council, Finance Committee, Property Committee, and as Parish Worker. He was also a member of the Men's Garden Club of Kent where he served as treasurer.

He is survived by his daughters, Beverley (Dick) Bilotto of Ravenna and Mary Tina (Bob) Smith of Brandon, MS; former wife, Eleanor Seavers-Polack of Kent; grandchildren, William Van Sant IV of Cuyahoga Falls, Eric Van Sant of Kent, Adam (Heather) Smith of Missouri; and Sharon (Adam) Coker of Brandon, MS; great grandchildren, Noah Smith and Lillian Coker; companion, Helen Glenn of Kent; and sister, Betty Bettsworth of Bradford, England. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Reedman.

Calling hours will be held 10-11 AM Monday, May 4th at Trinity Lutheran Church 600 S. Water Street Kent where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM with Pastor Elizabeth Hazelton and Pastor Douglas Fidler officiating. Burial will be held at Restland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 600 S. Water Street, Kent, OH 44240.
