George K. Stahl

March 26, 1918 — March 26, 2014

George K. Stahl, 96, of Kent Ohio, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Gables of KentRidge. George was born January 20, 1918 in Cuyahoga Falls to George and Mamie (Jacobs) Stahl.

George will be remembered for his gentle and creative personality, his artistic talents, and for his devotion to his wife of 71 years, Millie. As a young man, George worked for the WPA (Works Projects Administration) and in the early 40's he began working for Black & Decker (Ametek) as a machinist where he would spent 43 years.

In 1934, when George was 16, he saw a cute 14 year old girl fall off her bike as she was delivering newspapers. The moment he picked her up and led her to safety, a spark of romance began that was to last a lifetime. George and the young girl (Millie) were married in 1939. In the 1940's George and Millie began building their home on Chelton Drive in Kent, and they had two sons, Ken and Larry. George and Millie were married for 71 years until her death in 2010. Many Kent residents recall the pair ice skating at Kent State, or taking their daily bike rides well into their upper 80's.

George had diverse musical and artistic interests including, archery, bee keeping, painting, sketching, playing the guitar, playing the harmonica, raising tropical fish, relief and decoy carving, and making lapidary jewelry. His passion for learning new things was unlimited.

George is survived by sons, Ken (Melinda) Stahl of Brimfield and Larry (Marie) Stahl of Diamond; grandchildren, Shelley White of Folsom, CA, Dana Stahl of Streetsboro, Larry Stahl of Midland, GA, Eric Stahl of Kent, and Daren Stahl (Helen Todd) of Cleveland Heights. George also has 10 great grandchildren. .

A private memorial gathering will be held for immediate family members in May, 2014. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kent Free Library Foundation, POB 684, Kent, OH 44240.
