Gerald Allison "Jerry" Haas

June 5, 1949 — July 1, 2017

Jerry was born in Marion, Ohio and grew up in Mt. Gilead and Medina, Ohio. He married Margaret (Peg) Bissler Haas on the first day of spring of 1976 and they shared 41 years of marriage. He was a beloved father to their children Andrew (Andy) and Claire Haas. Jerry loved to go for a drive in the car with his family, and they share many happy memories of picnics and hikes in the park, baseball games, and eating dinner together every night.

Jerry and his family traveled all around the United States, taking train rides and finding interesting fun things to do wherever they went. A couple highlights for Jerry included taking the train across the country to visit Claire in California, and a road trip to Spring training after he retired.

He held a BS in Business Administration from Ohio State (1971) and an Associates degree in electronics from the University of Akron (1983). After working in a variety of fields, he became a computer technician in 1985 with Basic Computer, and retired from this job of 30 years at the Brookpark Ford plant. After he retired, he served as a trainman on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad for a year, and he had hoped for many more.

He danced with his daughter Claire at her wedding (to Andrew Snyder) on April 1st of this year, before the end of his journey with glioblastoma. He is well loved and will be missed by Peg, Andy, Claire, his sister Roxie (Don) Todd and her family, and all of his friends and family.

A celebration of Jerry's life will be held from 5-7 pm at the Mingo Shelter in Sand Run Metro park on Wednesday July 5, following calling hours at Bissler's funeral home in Kent from 1-3 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his name to the Blick Center, 640 W. Market St., Akron, Ohio 44303.
