Gerald L. Scalf, 80, of Rootstown, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024, surrounded by family.
He was born July 15, 1944, to the late Robert and Chelsea (Boleyn) Scalf, and was a longtime Akron resident before moving to Rootstown in 1972. He was a printing salesperson for more than 30 years, covering accounts in Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.
In 1966, he married the love of his life, Judy, in a small ceremony in Kent, Ohio. In 57 years of marriage, they enjoyed raising two kids and three grandchildren. Earlier in life, he was an active member of the Rootstown Lions Club and Northeast Ohio Labrador Retriever Club.
Gerry also loved hunting, fly fishing, fly tying, wood turning and softball, activities he shared with his son, Kevin, daughter, Christine, and granddaughter, Chelsea (Christine). He also loved hearing about the activities and accomplishments of his two grandchildren in North Carolina, Evan and Jada (Kevin). He enjoyed raising and rescuing labs, including Keeter, a special yellow lab.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Bobbie Jean Hopkins. He leaves his loving wife Judith (Johnson); children Kevin and Christine; son-in-law Brian Bowser; 3 grandchildren, Evan, Jada and Chelsea; and brother Samuel Thomas.
Visitation will be 11a.m. to 12 p.m. MONDAY, October 14, along with a short service at noon at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home, 628 W. Main St. Kent, OH 44240. Private burial at Homeland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Portage APL, Ravenna, Ohio.
