Gertrude R. "Trudy" Pierce
Gertrude R. "Trudy" Pierce, 97, of Kent, passed away peacefully on November 3rd, 2016.
A Kent resident since 1957, she was born June 28, 1919 in Russia Township (Oberlin), OH to Charles and Edna (Sedelke) Squires. A 1936 graduate of Oberlin High School and 1940 graduate of Kent State University, Trudy enjoyed a career in accounting and bookkeeping until she was in her 90's. She was a member (and treasurer) of the Kent State Alumni Association, Oak Branch Garden Club, Mary Reed Methodist Church Circle, James A. Garfield Eastern Star and the United Methodist Church of Chagrin Falls.
Trudy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family and friends were always first in her life. Her other passions included bowling, golf and genealogy. Trudy traveled throughout the United States attending bowling tournaments and enjoyed the opportunity to golf in many different locations while traveling. It was thru these activities that Trudy formed a lifelong circle of dear friends who meant the world to her.
Trudy is survived by her children, Virginia Turczyk (Florian) of Sun City Center, FL and James Pierce (Wendy Nelson) of Bonita Springs, FL; grandchildren, Margaret Case (Earl) of Stow, OH; Beverly Turczyk (James Mazzeo) of Parma, OH; Matthew Turczyk (Lisa Golubic) of LaGrange, OH; Christopher Pierce (Christine) of Saugatuck, MI; James Pierce (Rachael) of Bradenton, FL; five great grandchildren, Mackenzie Mazzeo, Sophia Pierce, Annabel Pierce, Meghan Pierce, Elizabeth Pierce; her brother, Paul Squires of Oberlin, OH; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Claude E. Pierce.
Calling hours will be held 3-6 PM on Sunday November 6th 2016 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home 628 West Main Street, Kent. Interment will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent 10 AM Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Summa, 444 North Main Street, Akron, OH 44310.
