Gordon Mullen Gray

Gordon Mullen Gray, 87, of Kent, died Saturday, September 19, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He was born September 11, 1928 in Akron, to Willard and Jenniemay (Mullen) Gray. At an early age he began singing and by the age of 4 had won his first contest. As a youth he sang in the St. Paul's Episcopal Church Men's Choir in Akron. Gordon graduated from Kent Roosevelt High School and attended Kent State University. In high school, Gordon participated in track, basketball, baseball and football. He was a veteran of the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. Gordon retired after 37 years from Goodyear as a Quality Assurance Manager. He worked at the Logan and St. Marys Plants and Akron Headquarters. He was an avid Kent State Basketball fan, missing only 5 games in 26 years. Gordon was a fan of the area professional teams and loved to watch their games with his daughter, Denise. He enjoyed golfing and other outside activities.

Gordon was known for his sense of humor and ability to get along with everyone.

He is survived by his wife, Joan (Drescher) Gray, whom he married on December 14, 1957; daughter, Denise Gray of Kent; nephews and nieces, William Gray of Atlanta, GA, Cindy Hiers of West Palm Beach, FL, Ginger Stroman of Union Mills, NC and, Robert Gordon Gray of Aiken, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Jenniemay (Mullen) Gray; brother, William Gray; and an infant sister.

The family would like to thank April for her warm and loving care she gave to Gordon and the support of friends.

Calling hours will be held 6-8 PM Thursday, September 24th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, September 25th with Kevin O'Brien officiating. Burial will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charity of the Donor's Choice.
